2012 Wedding Trends: DIY Manzanita Wishing Trees

We love all the new wedding decor trends that are making their way into holiday and event decor. Wishing trees are one of the top 2012 trends that we’re seeing more and more of. Did you know that wishing trees are a Dutch wedding tradition? Wishing trees are great for centerpieces at baby showers and wedding receptions. Guests can share their well wishes with friends and family and you can incorporate them into a guest book afterwards. Baby shower themes can be: what do you wish for our child, tips to raising the perfect kid, or inspiring words for our child. Wedding guests can write about advice, special hopes or future wishes that the happy couple can read on their honeymoon. A wishing tree is a great guest book alternative for an outdoor wedding or a nature-inspired wedding theme. If your wedding invitations have a tree theme this wedding decor is perfect.

Create a wishing tree by painting manzanita branches white, silver or any décor colors to match your reception. Place a branch in a wood box or a special vase and prop it up with rocks or craft foam. Wrap your wooden box with Diamond Rhinestone Ribbon Wrap or paint to match reception colors. Then decorate your wishing tree with hanging crystal garland. If you’re creating a lighted display, decorate with hanging candle votive holders for a glamorous reflective accent. Then, once you’ve created your tree cut out tags so guests can write their wishes. Tie each tag with ribbon so guests can hang them on the branches. A simple sign inviting guests to give sweet advice for the new couple or baby addition propped out front will inspire them to give tips, advice or insight for you to share for years to come.

After the special event, take each tag and place it in a scrapbook with mini envelopes. The wedding wish tree is a creative alternative to the traditional guest book that most couples have. Use any accent colors you like and remember to make enough wishing tags for guests to share all their happy thoughts!

DIY Ideas: How To Decorate For The Holidays

Picture the smell of the holidays filling up the room:  on your front coffee table is a glass vase wrapped in cinnamon sticks, candles are burning bright in the window and the smell of hot cocoa is filling up the kitchen. Decorating the table for a holiday dinner can be an artistic way to express your creativity and style. Festive centerpieces are great for conversation starters. A creative way to set the table or decorate your mantle is to fill tall glass vases with red and green glitter ornaments. For decorations that will last through the holidays to New Year’s Eve, decorate ornaments and pine cones with silver and gold spray paint like this décor featured in Good Housekeeping.

Christmas Ornaments

These tall glass vases can be decorated with candles for extra light or fill them with nuts or fruit for a centerpiece that doubles as a serving dish. There are many ways to create a stunning holiday display for any size party. For small shorter vases decorate the outside with candy canes and tie with a green ribbon like these from Better Homes & Garden holiday ideas. Pillar candles can be wrapped in colorful holiday ribbon and candy canes for a red and white festive look. Apothecary jars are good for Christmas cookies as serving bowls for desserts. Glass vases and jars are perfect for adapting for DIY holiday décor because they are affordable and can be used afterwards. We’re not sure about you but nothing brings family and friends together better than fresh baked goods from the oven.

Top 10 Alternative 2012 Bachelorette Party Ideas

Bachelorette Party Ideas

Alternative bachelorette party ideas are all the rage for 2012 weddings. Creative vacations and fun getaway ideas are becoming popular for treating the bride to be to a fun last single night out party. Here are the top 10 ideas for alternative bachelorette parties:

  1. Recently, destination bachelorette parties have expanded beyond Las Vegas to other exotic places such as Greece, Italy and beach getaways. Traveling to Europe seems to be getting slightly more affordable at this time of year and ‘the girls’ are taking advantage of cheap holiday flights.
  2. Why not go green by camping in a national park? Camping trips in the past have a been a fun bachelor party idea but there’s no reason that the girls can’t enjoy a fun night away in Sedona or Joshua Tree. Not crazy about spending time in a tent? There are plenty of outdoor cabins and luxury campsites available online for your eco-friendly bachelorette party.
  3. Give Back Bachelorette Parties: Service oriented parties are making a comeback. Brides are donating their time to give back to their community for a good cause. Using their time in a positive way is a great way to make an important impact for those less fortunate.
  4. Skydiving & Bungee Jumping Adventures! While we’ve never understood the obsession some people have with jumping out of planes, these adventures are becoming a popular adrenaline rush for bachelorette parties. Check something off your bucket list with all your best gal pals in tow.
  5. Kick back and relax at a girl’s bachelorette spa weekend. Take a trip to a local salon or plan a lavish spa retreat get away. Let your cares slip away while you’re covered in a mud wrap and massaged into relaxation. Treat your favorite bridesmaids to manicures and pedicures as a thank you for making your big day memorable.
  6. Not everyone can have Napa in their backyard but if you’re lucky you can have a wine and cheese getaway to Napa Valley for a special wine themed bachelorette party. Rent a nice limo bus for a responsible transportation tour to all the scenic spots.
  7. Photo session bachelorette parties are all the rage right now. Boudoir photos are a great wedding day present for your new husband. Or similar to photos you took with all your girlfriends in high school, bachelorettes are treating their best girl friends to girlfriend photos. Scrapbook all your new photos for a fun way to remember and thank your bridesmaids.
  8. Everyone loves a laugh and comedians love playfully teasing bachelorettes. Sitting front row at a comedy club theme bachelorette party is a great way to get your bride-to-be plenty of attention!
  9. Walk the red carpet at a new movie premiere in Hollywood. Getting dolled up is a fun glamorous excuse to dress up for a special occasion. Can’t make it out to Los Angeles with all your girls? Try planning a special showing of chick flick movies at your local movie theatre for a special movie night bachelorette party theme.
  10. 10.  Trying to stay healthy and in shape for the big day? Plan a yoga theme bachelorette party with a yoga instructor or Pilates classes. These classes are great for non-drinkers or pregnant guests because you can abstain from alcohol and partying.

Bachelorette Party Supplies

Any of these fun unique bachelorette party ideas are doable with a small or large party of girls. Be creative and use your imagination because your special girl is only getting married once! There are plenty of resources for how to put together a memorable bachelorette party on the internet and at local event planners. Don’t forget all your bachelorette party supplies so you can be sure to take lots of memorable bachelorette photographs!

A Special Vintage Modern Stylized Photo Shoot: Part 2

We were fortunate enough to be part of a lovely stylized photo shoot with our friends at Veils & Fairytales Event Planning and Mariela Campbell Photography. We were incredibly impressed with the photos that we saw afterwards. These wedding photographs are stunning and unique. The decor was shabby but chic and perfect for an outdoor rustic wedding. Planning a country wedding requires blending rustic themes and shabby vintage themes. Unique barn weddings are great for any season because they can be decorated with different colors. Our favorite color combination is rose pink and white. White and pink colors are perfect for vintage weddings because they’re romantic and classic.

Top 5 Holiday Tips For Hosting Thanksgiving 2011

Hosting your first Thanksgiving together is kind of a big deal right? You have to carefully include all the usual suspects and the family regulars. All the in laws have to be included, especially if you hope to receive props for your delicious cooking. The pressure to decorate and bake can be a lot to handle for a newlywed couple. That is why we have put together a list of how to survive hosting your first holiday together! We were influenced by a terrific article we found on Huffington Post and wanted to add a few additional pointers.

Candy Corn GourdsGourds are a great conversation piece. These candy corn gourds from familycircle.com can be filled with votive candles or festive candy.

  1. Guest List: Make sure you invite everyone. Even if you’re unsure whether your in-laws can handle your outspoken opinionated family, you’ll have bigger problems if you forget to invite a crucial guest who has been invited to every holiday event for the past twenty years. Be aware your guest list might grow and duplicate but a slight can really hurt your chances of hosting in the future.
  2. Incorporate Your Personal Traditions: Now is your chance to show the in-laws what you bring to the table. Family traditions from your family will blend into your new family so incorporating both into the big day will help show both mothers that you’re including them.
  3. Decorate With Conversation Pieces: Incorporating candles into your festive centerpieces is only the tip of the iceberg. Use glass vases filled with artificial leaves to represent fall, then decorate with cinnamon pinecones in the entryway to lure guests in. Transform an pillar candle by wrapping twigs and other found nature objects around the outside with a rubber band. Then cover the rubber band with ribbon or rhinestone ribbon wrap.
  4. Potluck Style Is Okay Too: Letting the in laws help with a small side dish or an appetizer is a great way to make them feel welcome. Plus, ask them to bring a recipe card or special family dish that has meaning. This way you have a conversation starter for when things get a little quiet. Ask them to share a special story about past Thanksgivings or holidays.
  5. Plan an Activity: A wishing tree is a great way to show your friends and family that you’re thankful and appreciative for their support and love. Decorate a manzanita tree centerpiece with silver glitter or crystal garland. Then hang things you’re thankful for on wishing tags. Guests can opt to add their own before the meal. This is a great activity to show the children that giving thanks is an important part of getting together for the holidays.

Candy Buffet Supplies Perfect For A Winter Wedding!

Candy buffets are no longer just for summer and spring weddings. They can be incorporated into a winter wedding with just the slight variation in color and decor! White weddings are the perfect way to showcase mint chocolate treats and peppermint bark for a stunning candy buffet display. The best part about a DIY candy bar is you can dress it up with baked goods and other favorite desserts that may be meaningful to the bride and groom. If you’ve shared a sweet ice cream date for your most memorable night out then decorate a retro candy buffet with ice cream sandwiches and hot cocoa to warm up after! One of my personal favorite is cake pops and cupcake displays that have stunning pops of color. Nothing complements white desserts better than sparkly toppings! Try adding a glitter cupcake wrapper to your cupcakes for a special bit of fancy.

Winter Wonderland Wedding Candy Buffet

I came across this inspiration board from thecakeblog.com on our Pinterest page. I love the way they incorporated the snowflakes as an integral part of the decor. Snowflakes represent winter and snowy weather so what better way is there to show off white cupcakes? Create a subtle mix of cupcakes, cookies and candies to give your guests a better selection to choose from. If a white on white color theme is not your style, try a silver and white wedding motif.

To create a stunning wedding candy buffet you need a mixture of candy bowls, candy buffet jars and cake stands. Adding different heights will mix up the table and look better aesthetically. Decorate with silver bowls and clear glass apothecary jars for a silver and white theme. Peppermint bark and s’mores theme treats are great for a winter themed party. Another crowd pleaser? Gold coins are perfect for a wedding near Christmas because they’re classic and a subtle reminder of the holidays. Plus, gold candy is a great way to accent white in a modern way. Once you’ve decided on your stands and your types of candy, then you can move on to accent decor. Decorate your cupcakes in any of our festive Christmas cupcake wrappers for a holiday wedding or our gold mini cupcake liners for a white and gold motif. Mini cupcake liners or baking cups are also perfect for putting cake pops and small Jordan almonds in to avoid guests having to dig into dishes of treats. Which reminds me, don’t forget the rest of your candy buffet supplies such as tongs, scoops and to go favor bags for guests to take their treats home!

A popular trend among DIY brides and wedding bloggers is the use of mason jars and paper decor. White Tissue Paper Pom Poms hung above your candy buffet is a great backdrop and photo opportunity. Mason jars are cute with a few colorful paper drinking straws. Or chocolate chip cookies balanced on top of a pretty glass of milk make for a sweet chocolate touch without interrupting the sweet tooth theme. If all of this seems a little too daunting or cavity inducing, try decorating a simple cupcake buffet display with cupcake wrappers for color and then giving guests personalized baking mix party favors instead. Whether you’re creating a stunning cupcake buffet or going all out with a candy and dessert display table, you’ll find all the candy buffet supplies for a white winterland wedding at Koyal Wholesale!

NEW Vintage Freestanding Wooden Numbers For Rustic Weddings!

A few weeks ago we did a post on unique table numbers and how to decorate with wooden letters. Due to great feedback we’ve brought in NEW wooden numbers that stand by themselves! These are great for shabby but chic weddings and rustic outdoor events. Decorate with any color paint or primer with a clear glaze for a wood look. They come in a light wood color that can go straight from wrapping to table without even changing anything! If you’re feeling really creative then you can decorate them with moss or collage paper to make them more personal and unique.

Another really creative way to decorate these cute wooden table numbers would be to cover them in decorative washi tape. Japanese washi tape comes in a variety of colors and patterns and you can table the whole table number to make your personal style and motif. Or if you want a glamorous table number try decorating these with rhinestone ribbon rolls.

Friday Video: Romantic Light Writing Proposal

We’ve fallen into a romantic habit of posting creative proposal videos that we find on Vimeo and YouTube. This weeks is a very technical proposal that requires thought and a lot of planning. Plus, a very good knowledge of cameras and photography. That being said, you might be able to recreate a cool rendition of this for your wedding photography. We’ve seen some pretty creative photos using sparklers to spell out words. Check out this video for a romantic light writing proposal!
