Hot Wedding Trend Alert: Going Mint

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you are ready to start a wonderful week!  To get your Monday off to a right start right, we’re introducing a little color inspiration.

You may have noticed a certain color popping up almost everywhere lately.  From fashion to stationary to colorful desserts, MINT has become the IT color of the season!  We couldn’t be happier for mint is versatile, fresh, and oh-so-lovely.

Incorporate mint into any aspect of your wedding.  Play up mint fashionably – we love the idea of mint bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses tied with mint sashes, mint colored shoes peaking out from under your wedding dress, and even a mint colored party dress for the after-party!

Love dessert tables and candy buffets?  Set up a mint-colored wonderland with vintage paper drinking straws, cupcake wrappers, and bulk candy.  Go all the way with the mint theme and serve up chocolate after-dinner mints, mint chocolate-chip cookies, and even mint-flavored tea.

With party decor, use mint as an accent color rather than as the base color.  Pair mint with blush, ivory, or gold for maximum effect.

If your wedding palette incorporates other colors, then consider using mint at your bridal shower instead.  Tissue paper pom poms and kissing ball pomanders provide just the right amount of decor detail for an intimate affair.

Let us know how you plan to use mint at your next event! Check out our Pinterest board for more ideas!

Ten Reasons To Love Rustic Style Weddings

Thinking about having a rustic style wedding?  If so, here are ten reasons why a rustic celebration might particularly suit your style:

1. If you’re a DIY kind of bride, a rustic wedding is perfect for your creative impulses.  Simple homemade touches tie a rustic theme together and can be done using what you have lying around the house.

2.  Going rustic allows you to play with a variety of textures – think bark, birch, burlap, lace, twine, and more.  The essence of rusticity is the lack of rigid style rules, so feel free to combine your favorite lace runner with that burlap table cover!

3.  A rustic wedding creates a sense of nostalgia that allows for a brief respite from reality.   Creating an atmosphere of a bygone era is always a welcome escape from everyday life.

4.  Leave the tux at the door – choosing a rustic style for your wedding means you can opt for a more casual dress code.  Whether that means mismatched bridesmaid dresses, a groom in his favorite pair of sneakers, or cardigans at night when it gets chilly, less formality in dress is perfectly suited to a rustic wedding.

5.  Choosing a rustic style decor opens you up to a variety of outdoor spaces for your wedding. You may think you’re restricted to barns and the like, but because rustic style is about small, simple details, practically any outdoor space, from your own backyard to the local park, can be turned into a rustic wonderland.

6.  If you love homestyle cuisine, whether catered or homemade yourself (think BBQ), then a rustic style wedding is perfectly suited for your menu choices.  Macaroni and cheese, apple pie and ice cream – guests will indulge in comfort food favorites.

7.  When it comes to style – you’re a minimalist.  For you, small details go a long way – think mason jars filled with lighted candles, simple invitations tied with baker’s twine, and cupcakes sitting atop mini wooden cupcake stands.

8.  Choosing a rustic style for your wedding doesn’t mean you have to forgo other styles.  It’s easy to incorporate vintage, modern, and even glam elements into your wedding while still maintaining an overall cohesive rustic theme.

9.  If at the end of it all, your goal is to create a cozy and intimate atmosphere for you and your guests, then go for a rustic style wedding. Handmade details, personalized touches, and creative decor elements contribute to that warm, celebratory feeling.

10.  You are naturally inspired by the outdoors and scenes of uncrowded nature. Because rustic weddings focus on the smaller details, this allows for the natural beauty of your outdoor venue to shine through.  Use big sky scenes and mountainous backdrops as pieces of your wedding decor.

Tips To Save Money On Your Wedding Flowers

Budget is a huge consideration when planning your big day and your wedding florals are a significant portion of that budget.  Your wedding flowers will be one of the most photographed details of your wedding so it’s understandable why you want to spend the time and money. However, with a little creativity you can achieve an exquisite floral look without breaking the bank.

1.  Go Green

Consider using more greenery than flowers in your centerpieces.  Using flowers as accent pieces in your centerpieces rather than as the main focus allows you to incorporate your favorite florals in a budget-friendly way.  Succulents are another way to add a trendy green vibe – use them in centerpieces, wedding bouquets, or boutonnieres!

2.  Use Substitutes

Many times, you can swap one type of flower for another less expensive flower.  For example, swap calla lilies for tulips, which are similar in shape.  If you love the style of orchids, switch cymbidium orchids out for less expensive dendrobium orchids.  Lavender and daffodil are also excellent substitutes.

3.  Kissing Ball Pomanders

Wood curl kissing ball pomanders add instant color and texture to your wedding style without breaking the bank.  Pomanders are especially versatile – use them to adorn pews, as bouquets, or as centerpieces.  You can also combine them with fresh flowers or crystal elements for a dramatic reception decor look.

4.  Silk Flowers

Sometimes you may come across a gorgeous floral arrangement and find yourself asking if the flowers are real or fake.  Silk flowers are extremely convenient because they don’t wilt or require water, are lightweight and thus easier to handle and transport, and are durable in any setting. They’re also just as gorgeous as the real thing!

Ideas for Pantone’s Color of the Year

A while back, we introduced emerald green as Pantone’s Color of the Year.  A stark contrast from last year’s red-hot tangerine tango, emerald green invokes lush and regal feelings.  As a clean, classic, and jewel-tone hue, emerald green can easily be infused throughout your wedding – from your cake and cutlery, to your jewelry and dancing shoes!

One way to ensure that Pantone’s Color of the Year will prominently display at your wedding is by dressing your bridesmaids in lush emerald green.  Whether you choose matching dresses or let your friends decide on their own style of dress, emerald green will suit any manner of dress.

If you’re a DIY kind of bride, consider going creative with fabrics such as emerald green tulle bolts or organza bolts.  Use them as drapery, table covers, table runners, or chair sashes for an instant pop of lush green.  We also love emerald green leaf garland trim to accent gift boxes, vases, tablecloths, and more.

You can also showcase emerald green as your primary decor color and use alternative shades of green as accent colors.  For example, green pom poms or green kissing balls are perfect accent decor pieces.

Or save the color for the very end – let your cake and dessert table explode in radiant emerald green.  Stock your dessert table supplies with green vintage paper drinking straws, mason jars, and green cupcake wrappers.

We especially love that Pantone chose emerald green because it’s perfect for any style of wedding – glam, classic, rustic, or vintage.  Play around with this bold green hue – it’s impossible to go wrong with it!

Downton Abbey Inspired Weddings

Happy Monday everyone – hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

We’re big fans of Downton Abbey and last night’s U.S. premiere had us breathless over Mary and Matthew’s wedding!  From the dress, to the jewels, to the fabulous hats, we got to imagining how we could replicate a 1920 wedding today.

It seemed almost every lady at Downton Abbey wore a brooch of some sort.  Whether used as hair ornaments or dress buckles, brooches were everywhere.  You can easily incorporate jeweled brooches into your wedding by adding them to your flower bouquet, using them as napkin treatment, or adorning them with a piece of ribbon as a pillar candle wrap.

We didn’t get to see Mary and Matthew’s wedding cake, but we can only imagine it would have been sitting on nothing less than an antique silver jeweled cake stand.

Photos may not have been all the rage in 1920, but you can still add some art deco charm to your wedding with vintage pearl wooden frames.  Fill them with your engagement pictures, pictures of your parents, grandparents, or any loved ones, and place them anywhere you please – the guest sign-in table, the dinner tables, etc.

Finally, use vintage inspired decor like pinwheel fans, hanging pinwheels, and vintage script pinwheel door signs for a Downton Abbey inspired wedding reception!

Tell us – are you fans of the show? Who are your favorite characters?

Ombre is one popular trend we adore – especially when applied to paper fans, paper lanterns, and placecards!

Ombre accordion paper fans in oasis blue, dark pink, purple, watermelon, and candy apply green are perfect for spring and summer weddings!  These paper fans are fashion forward while also serving a practical use – keeping guests cool in the soon-to-come warm months.

We also love these ombre paper lanterns – a new decorative touch to an old favorite!  Ombre paper lanterns fit the bill whether used outdoors or indoors.  Mix and match colors for a true eye-catching effect.

Finally, placecards in the shape of mini ombre paper fans are especially perfect for outdoor/beach weddings.

We can’t wait to see what more ombre trends are in store for 2013!

Dress Your Holiday Tablescape

Looking to add holiday cheer to your Christmas tablescape this year? Check out our tips on how to dress the perfect table!

Lay the foundation

Start with white table linens as white easily showcases all the color and texture you’ll be adding to the table. Get creative with your linens – try layering regular white linen with white organza or sheer fabric also in white. It’s an easy way to add instant texture to your tablescape.

Set the mood with lighting

Next decide on ambience – are you setting a busy buffet table bustling with guests and merriment? Then go for large candelabras that can hold five or more taper candles for a “wow” lighting effect. Candelabras add an instant old world touch, but colored in white, they also bring a splash of modern glam.

If you are hosting an intimate sit down holiday dinner, then set the mood with votive candles or floating candles. Space the candles sporadically on the table to create an informal, festive mood. Or line your dining room with twinkle lights, turn off the dining room lights, and dine by the soft glow of twinkle lights!

Final touches

Now comes the time to add the big pieces! Use colorful charger plates to add an easy pop of color to your tablescape. Go traditional with green and red or silver and gold charger plates. Or get creative and play with colors that fit your fancy. Because you’re using white table linens as your backdrop, charger plates in any color will work.

You can also add different forms of texture by incorporating willow, branches, and even florals to the table.

Finally, don’t forget everyone’s favorite component of the holiday table – fun, festive, and delicious food!

Wedding Color Palette: Fuchsia & Yellow DIY Ideas

Summer certainly brings out bold wedding color combinations. From umbrellas to lanterns, all of the fresh vibrant color palettes come out when summer comes around. One of our favorite trendy color combinations is fuchsia and yellow. The pink and yellow tones remind of us cotton candy and lemonade, the perfect refreshing summer treat. These two tones can be incorporated into any unique wedding theme. The most popular seems to be a bright modern wedding theme with fuchsia bridesmaid dresses and yellow paper drinking straws.

{Fuchsia and Yellow: Yellow Drinking Straws, Yellow Parasols, Paper Lanterns, Favor Boxes, Paper Folding Fans, Fuchsia Table Linens, Fuchsia Favor Bags}

Shaken Not Stirred

There are a lot of fun ways to serve food with a yellow and fuchsia color palette. Set up a fresh fruity drink cart for guests to make their own cocktails. Using strawberries, watermelon and berries, wedding guests can mix up a cool glass of fruit flavored lemonade. Once they’ve chosen their fruits and flavors, have a bartender shake their drink. For a DIY project, use ice cube trays to freeze lemonade and fruit together. Each cube of fruit-infused lemonade will help strengthen the drink as it melts. Top with a fun paper drinking straw and you have a great wedding beverage bar. If you really want to add some accents to your beverages, dip the bottom stands of your wine glasses in glitter. The color coordinated glasses will look and feel like they cost a fortune for a fraction of the price. Plus, with a simple decorative ribbon you have DIY wedding favors!

Pretty in Pink

Fuchsia is a classic alternative to pink. With fuchsia bridesmaid dresses and yellow flowers you’ll have the perfect combination of bright and romantic. Brides often worry that pink and purple tones are ‘too feminine’ for a wedding but not with yellow and orange accent colors. These three colors have been paired together for summer weddings. Dress up your men with orange and yellow bowties and socks to match. Your wedding party can coordinate in simple ways by pairing accessory colors and jewelry. The simple coordinating accents make great wedding photos.

It’s important to distinguish between fuchsia and neon pink: these color themes are dramatically different but often mislabeled. Antique fuchsia is more subtle and calming where neon fuchsia is bright and vibrant. Our recommendation for weddings: for a chic modern wedding, stick with darker fuchsia and for a youthful cheery theme, use bright fuchsia.

DIY Glass Vases

Creating a monochromatic table centerpiece can be a pain in the butt if you have a specific color palette. Instead of spending hours looking for matching vases, simply purchase bulk glass vases and paint them yourself. This project is easier than it sounds, we promise. Pick out your favorite centerpiece vases and label the bottoms with your table numbers. Put together a variety of sizes and shapes for each table. At your local hardware store, pick out your favorite fuchsia hue (most will let you match a fabric swatch). Pour the paint into your vase and carefully rotate the vase to spread the paint thoroughly. The paint will create a solid finish in your favorite fuchsia color. You can repeat the process with yellow as well. Fill with a few wedding flowers in each face and you have a simple DIY centerpiece at a fraction of the cost. Plus, your centerpiece will match your wedding colors perfectly. Finish with white table linens and fuchsia charger plates and you have an understated wedding reception table.

Hopefully these easy DIY wedding ideas will inspired to create your own fuchsia and yellow wedding decorations. Personalizing your wedding with pops of fuchsia can be easy with a little bit of glitter and glue. Don’t forget, you can always use decorative washi tape and DIY craft supplies to tie a look together. With paper lanterns, big round balloons and coordinated table linens you can create a beautiful fuchsia and yellow wedding theme yourself!
