Weddings, BBQs, graduation parties, and other festive summer bashes is a time to savor the summer sun and indulge in the warm weather with family and friends.  And putting together a decor scheme that emphasizes summer’s spirit is easy with just a few favorite pieces – read on below for our summer-must-haves.

1.  Bali Umbrellas – Add a vibrant colorful touch to table tops with these made-for-summer decor pieces.  Whether you mix and match a few colors or add a hodgepodge of several different colors, the overall effect is simply stunning.  They work especially well at outdoor events, both during the day and night.

2.  Tiki Torches – Of course no summer event is complete without festive Polynesian tiki torches!  Our new favorites are the table top tiki torches which serve a dual purpose – a decorative touch that provides light for those summer luaus or beach-themed weddings. You can also substitute mini bamboo tabletop tiki torches at your next outdoor bash.

3.  Lattice Hanging Candle Holders – Intricately-designed candle holders add that extra touch of glamour and inviting ambience to any event.  The warm glow of soft candlelight shining through these patterned candle holders can also be used as centerpieces themselves – just add a few silk rose petals for a romantic touch.

4.  Paper Lanterns – Whether round, square, battery-operated, or even star shaped, paper lanterns are practically a summer must-have.  It’s a quick and easy way to add an instantaneous pop of color!  White paper lanterns are the most popular, bringing easy elegance to any party, but also consider mixing and matching colors, shapes, and textures for festive look that’s at once creative, whimsical, and just pure summer bliss!

We’ll be back next week with our remaining picks for top summer trends in party decor!

New Wedding Decor Ideas for the New Year

2013 is finally here and we’re excited to see what new wedding ideas the new year will inspire.

Ombre is one popular trend we adore – especially when applied to paper fans, paper lanterns, and placecards!

Ombre accordion paper fans in oasis blue, dark pink, purple, watermelon, and candy apply green are perfect for spring and summer weddings!  These paper fans are fashion forward while also serving a practical use – keeping guests cool in the soon-to-come warm months.

We also love these ombre paper lanterns – a new decorative touch to an old favorite!  Ombre paper lanterns fit the bill whether used outdoors or indoors.  Mix and match colors for a true eye-catching effect.

Finally, placecards in the shape of mini ombre paper fans are especially perfect for outdoor/beach weddings.

We can’t wait to see what more ombre trends are in store for 2013!

Top 10 Wedding Trends for 2013

Christmas is just around the corner, but we’re already excited for the 2013 wedding season!  If you’re planning a wedding for 2013, don’t miss out on these top trends that will tie your perfect day all together!

1.  Paper Lanterns

Paper lanterns are perfect for almost any type of wedding – from budget-friendly to extravagance, to indoor or outdoor – this key piece of decor makes creative lighting simple.  Part of the fun of paper lanterns is that the options are endless – you can stick to just one color, try different shades of the same color, or get colorful by color-blocking different hues.  An added bonus – paper lanterns can function as centerpieces as well!

2.  Colorful Charger Plates

Dressing the table is arguably one of the most important pieces of your wedding decor.  Solid color charger plates were all the rage in 2012 and the trend shows no signs of disappearing.  Because you can find charger plates in practically any color, it’s easy to find one that fits with your style.  Set against white linens, brightly colored charger plates immediately tell your guests it’s time to party.

3.  Tissue Paper Pom Poms

We’re starting to see a trend here: color.  Whether you use tissue paper pom poms as an alternative to paper lanterns, or in addition to, this decor trend adds casual elegance to any event.  You can even use them at your bridal shower and then again at the wedding – a budget friendly way to go big on decor.

4.  Kissing Balls

Here’s another trend we’re noticing: hanging decor.  We love kissing balls because they’re an easy yet decorative way to instantly dress up your outdoor event.  Hang these from trees, shepherd hooks, or the backs of chairs.  Extremely detailed, kissing balls create stunning decor for any event.

5.  Hanging Crystal Garlands

Looking to add some glam to your wedding without going overboard?  2013 is all about subtle touches of glamour. Hanging crystal garlands are perfect to use on centerpieces, especially on gorgeous manzanita trees.  Mix and match colors on the same centerpiece for an unexpected look.

6.  Paper Fans/Sandalwood Fans

Summer is still far off, but it’s not too early to start planning your summer wedding.  Many couples like to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and hold their wedding and/or reception outside.  However, whether your guests will be seated in a tent or not, make sure they’re prepared for the hot summer sun.  Paper and sandalwood fans are perfect because they’re both functional and decorative!

7.  Raffia Fans

If you’re looking for more texture in your fans, then look no further than raffia fans.  These days you can find raffia everywhere – furniture, party ware, and rugs!

8.  Rhinestone Ribbon Rolls

Here’s another trend that’s here to stay for a while – rhinestone ribbon rolls.  If you’re a DIY kind of bride, then this is a 2013 must-have.  These rhinestone rolls are easy to cut and to add adhesive to on the back.  Let your imagination run wild with this glam decor.  Some of our favorite ideas: wrap around candle centerpieces, use them on place cards, decorate your gift box, and more!

9.  Custom Cupcake Toppers

Custom cupcake wrappers were everywhere in 2012 and don’t expect them to go anywhere in 2013!  Customized cupcake toppers are a fun way to add personalization to your special day.  Use these toppers to create messages for your save-the-date cards, engagement photos, and reception dessert table!

10.  Burlap

One of our favorites – burlap is a must for any vintage, shabby chic event.  Perfect for both indoor and outdoor events, burlap adds and instant touch of rusticity.

2012 Wedding Trends: Paper Parasols

Wedding ParasolsSee more great photos like this on our Pinterest page!

How cute are these hot new paper parasols? They’ve become super trendy as a way to add a feminine touch to a bridal shower or wedding reception. Recently, I attended an event where they were placed upside down on the ceiling so all you could see were the colorful patterns. It definitely gives a pop of color without having to redecorate your whole venue. Especially when you combine these colorful parasols with any brightly colored paper lanterns. I love using these in photos as fun playful props and they can easily be ordered in matching colors for your wedding themes.

These are great for photo props, venue decor and ceremony decor. You can easily use these paper parasols to decorate your aisle runners. They will double as protection from sun or glare for guests. A really cute way to display these is to place them in a wicker woven basket by your aisle runners with a tag for guests to borrow some shade. Mix and match colors for a fun playful vibe. A fun new option is to design a pattern and paint your own! How creative would your photos be with a cute parasol that says “Save The Date” or “I Do”? Check out these White Paper Paint-Your-Own Parasols for a great way to personalize your wedding decor!

Fall Wedding Colors + Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Are you in love with Autumn weddings as much as we are? We’re loving these new color combinations that brides are trying. Orange & Teal, Green & Blue and Purple & Brown are among our favorites. Decorating with color is a great way to add personality and style to your event. In this economy DIY weddings are all the rage and it is so nice to see brides working together to save money and share ideas. Tissue Paper Pom Poms are making a huge comeback, as are Paper Lanterns. It is important to weigh the cost and energy spent on DIY projects with the cost of purchasing goods from a company. From my personal experience I realized that it was easier to spend the money on pre-packaged tissue paper pom poms rather than take the time to construct $40 dollars worth of tissue paper into cutting and folding. There are a lot of ways to cut budget and save money without the extra strain and nightmare paper cuts.

Check out these ideas for color combinations when decorating with Tissue Paper Pom Poms and Paper Lanterns. Mix and match lanterns and pom poms for a great rustic look that is great for outdoor weddings.

Hispanic Heritage Month Is A Great Reason To Celebrate

Did you know: according to census.gov, “Hispanics constituted 16.3 percent of the nation’s total population, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority.” Last week, September 15th marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. This year it lasts from September 15th to October 15th. The holiday honors our Nation’s Hispanic heritage, according to USA.gov. It is celebrated in September because “it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.” It is important to take time to recognize the contributions that the Hispanic community have given the United States. If you’re planning a celebration in your community here are some ideas for decorations.

Colorful Party Decorations

In the Hispanic culture, bright colors are prominent in their decor and clothing. Decorating with bright colors is a great way to show their spirit and culture. Bright paper lanterns and colorful metal lanterns are great for party decorations. Try using Orange Paper Lanterns with Yellow Paper Lanterns. Alternate hanging Paper Tissue Garlands with colorful Paper Lanterns for an over the top look. Then decorate your paper tables with fun colorful metal lanterns and different spices and beers for a fun playful look. I love bright color decorations and these cute centerpiece lanterns are the perfect way to add a touch of color! Don’t forget to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture, now through October 15th 2011!

How To: DIY Halloween Decorations

Carving pumpkins and hanging spiderweb is only part of the fun of Halloween. Throwing scary parties and haunted houses are much more fun! Especially when you have all the right decorations for putting together an impressive shindig. There are dozens of ways to use decorations for Halloween decor that can be recycled later for different occasions. Take these Decorative Paper Flags for example:

Decorative Paper Flags

Using a black sharpie market and stencils you can write messages on top of the flags. Because they have color on both sides you will still be able to reuse the unmarked side for other future events! Decorate with marker, fabric or paint to spell out “Trick or Treat” or “Spooky”. The orange flags can be used for Halloween decorations to create a look like this:

Another great reusable look? Use White Paper Lanterns to create a spider display for a frightful Halloween decoration that will show off your creepy crawly side. You can applique spiders on with tacky putty so that they can still be pulled off afterwards. Or use Orange Paper Lanterns for a mock pumpkin look. Use black sharpie to draw on your faces instead of carving pumpkins and making a mess!  Use paper taped to the lanterns in order to reuse them later.
